Charcoal burn

Another burn in preparation for the warm weather ahead. Hoping that everyone will be barbequing ( with our charcoal of course).

It’s a long slog, from the cutting and splitting of the wood, loading the kiln and then attending the burn, watching the smoke, changing the chimneys round, blocking off, unblocking and then trying to time the shutdown just right.

If we shut the kiln down too soon all our efforts, and wood will come to nothing. We will have lots of half burnt wood. If we shut the kiln down too late, all our efforts will be wasted. We will be left with a lot ash. Neither is our desired outcome.
